Food for thought...

On Googling for stats and arriving at sites such as Wikipedia, the following are estimates of coalition and civilian deaths over the last decade while fighting for oil:
Iraq: 1,220,580
Libya: 30,000
Afghanistan: 13,000
Total: 1,263,580*
These figures don't include wars in other countries and environmental issues and associated deaths which will eventually be much higher. (When I say "environmental" I am not talking about the proverbial green movement which is little more than another reason to tax us, I am talking about the affect of drilling, oil spills, and other earthly damage).

As of 2012, there are an estimated 600,000,000 private cars on the world's roads (you didn't misread, that's SIX HUNDRED MILLION).

Assuming the stats researched are correct, that means for every 475 cars owned, one person in the world dies as a result of our dependency on oil and subsequent wars. That means the average car driver is 0.2% responsible for a death.

Doesn't sound like much, but it's made me ever more driven (no pun intended) to give up dependency on cars.

*Stats as of 2012
